Burton's first claim to fame came as the slave Kunta Kinte in Alex Haley's Roots. He has roles in several television films and series, including that of host for the popular children's program Reading Rainbow, and as Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Burton can also be found reprising that role in Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Trekkies.
