Beginning as a comedian, Goldberg took her stand-up routine all the way to Broadway. Her first breakthrough in film was Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. She has since gone on to star in many films, including Sister Act, Boys on the Side, and Ghost, for which she won an Oscar for best supporting actress.
