Carl’s Jr., Hardee’s and Samsung Help Surprise Fans with Rick and Morty Season Premiere Event on April Fool’s Day

April 3, 2017 -- Turner’s Adult Swim took April Fool’s Day to the ultimate level this year, continuing to surprise and delight fans. An all-new episode of Rick and Morty aired Saturday from 8p to midnight ET/PT, and will be re-aired each night this week at 10p ET/PT. The network continues to be the destination for young adults, ranking #1 in basic cable with millennials for more than a decade.

The new episode was the only program that aired that evening in primetime, allowing fans to watch the show as word got out of its premiere on TV and online. Fans can catch up online at AdultSwim.com, with new episodes coming later this summer.

Turner partnered with Carl’s Jr.® and Hardee’s® (subsidiaries of CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc.) as well as Samsung to deliver ad experiences for Rick and Morty's fans as unique as the event itself. The two brands took over all of the commercial breaks during the entire four-hour block, running a variety of branded content spots throughout the evening that align with Adult Swim’s out-of-the-box look and feel.

As part of their brand new ad direction, Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s debuted its three-minute “Carl Hardee Sr. Returns” commercial manifesto film during the Rick and Morty telecast, the first and only time it will air in its entirety on broadcast television.

The spot, created by 72andSunny and directed by Hungry Man's Wayne McClammy, features the company’s new silver-fox of a spokes-character and fictional founder, Carl Hardee Sr., who epically personifies this new irreverent, quality- and pioneer-focused direction, and is seen “taking back” the company from his “son,” Carl Hardee Jr.

Above all else, Sr. has returned to remind viewers of the incredible innovations the company brought to the quick service restaurant industry over the years, including pioneering the 100 percent Black Angus Thickburger®, all-natural beef and chicken with no antibiotics ever, popularizing the drive-thru, and introducing bacon to practically every menu item.
