CNNS LEADING WOMEN: WHITE HOUSE EXECUTIVE CHEF CRISTETA COMERFORD AND HOME SHOPPING NETWORK CEO MINDY GROSSMAN
Wednesday, September 17, 2014
This month CNN’s ‘Leading Women’ meets Cristeta Comerford, the White House Executive Chef and Mindy Grossman, CEO of the Home Shopping Network.
In 2005, Philippines-born Cristeta Comerford made culinary history when she was appointed the White House Executive Chef by then First Lady Laura Bush – the first female and the first minority to ever hold her post. For almost two decades, the mother-of-one has worked behind the scenes making sure the president, his family and high-profile guests enjoy well balanced well cooked meals. The 51-year-old has served under three presidents – joining the Clinton administration in 1995, working for the Bush government and now serving Barack Obama throughout his two terms. Comerford talks to CNN’s Isha Sesay about growing up in Manila as one of 11 children, her journey to the U.S. at age 23 to work as a “salad girl”, and feeding the most powerful man in the world at the White House.
Also on ‘Leading Women’ this month, Isha Sesay meets Mindy Grossman, the CEO of the Home Shopping Network, an e-commerce superpower which has become one of the top 10 most trafficked digital commerce sites. Grossman is the current holder of the 2014 ‘Fast Company’s Most Creative Person in Business’, and has been honoured with a place on the Forbes ‘Most Powerful Women in the World’ list three times. Today she oversees a retail portfolio including the HSN and Cornerstone brands worth $3.4 billion, with a shopping empire supplying everything from home furnishings to food. She tells CNN how she did it and what inspires her.
‘Leading Women’ connects CNN viewers to extraordinary women of our time. Each month CNN meets two women at the top of their field, exploring their careers, lives and ideas.
