Jane Horrocks joins The Royal Family as ‘Queen Eleanor’ in latest Cartoon Network Miniseries
Long Live the Royals begins on Tuesday 6th September at 6pm on Cartoon Network
The holidays can be a chaotic time for any family; throw in a few bejeweled crowns, lofty titles, and an entire Kingdom and you’ve got Cartoon Network Studios’ newest original miniseries, Long Live the Royals. This ridiculously regal new miniseries follows the high-class lifestyle of a contemporary royal family living in an old-fashioned world. Created by Sean Szeles (supervising producer of the award-winning Regular Show) and featuring the voice of Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous) as Queen Eleanor, Long Live the Royals premieres over four consecutive nights beginning Tuesday 6th September at 6pm on Cartoon Network.
Set against a medieval backdrop, Long Live the Royals follows a modern-day royal family as they prepare for the annual week-long Yule Hare Festival, where there will be delicious food, exciting frights, singing forest men and most importantly, much laughter. Each episode examines a different family member and their storyline, from Queen Eleanor’s insecurity over her loud beastly snoring to Princess Rosalind’s desire to be a ‘normal teenager’ who goes out to parties, the miniseries comically highlights modern-day monarchy problems faced by the royals while ruling a medieval kingdom.
Commenting on her role as Queen Eleanor, Jane Horrocks says: “It was such a delight to take on the role of Queen Eleanor in Cartoon Network’s latest miniseries Long Live the Royals. Queen Eleanor is quite a fearsome Queen, but she is also very witty and has some really good lines! I was attracted to be a part of this miniseries because the script is very funny and the characters are beautifully drawn. In my opinion there are a lot of cartoons out there that tend to be the same, that’s why I like Long Live the Royals, because it feels very different and fresh. I also think it’s the kind of show that will appeal both to children and adults alike.”
Filled with all the humour and heart that is core to a Cartoon Network show, Long Live the Royals features a voice cast of some of comedy’s brightest talents, with Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous) as the image-focused Queen Eleanor, Jon Daly (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) as the pompous King Rufus, Gillian Jacobs (Community) as punk rock Princess Rosalind, Kieran Culkin (Scott Pilgrim) as shy Prince Peter and Nicki Rapp as royal pain Prince Alex. Peter Serafinawicz, Horatio Sanz, Fred Armisen, Alfred Molina, Ellie Kemper, Ken Marino and more also lend their voices to the fun.
Originating from Cartoon Network Studios’ Artists Program, Long Live the Royals follows 2014’s Emmy® Award-winning miniseries Over the Garden Wall.
Long Live the Royals premieres on Cartoon Network on Tuesday 6th September at 6pm and rolls out until Friday 9th September.
