NBA TV’s critically acclaimed Open Court series will turn to a panel of former NBA stars to analyze the upcoming season in its Open Court: 2016-17 Season Preview, Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 10 p.m. ET. The roundtable discussion will focus on the top storylines entering the upcoming season including the formation of a new “super team” with Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors, potential sleeper teams in Boston and New York, along with conversation and debate surrounding the league’s top point guards.
Open Court’s “Season Preview” episode is hosted by Sports Emmy Award winner Ernie Johnson with Hall of Famers Isiah Thomas and Kevin McHale, All-Stars Grant Hill, Chris Webber and Steve Smith and 10-year NBA veteran Greg Anthony.
Excerpts from Open Court: 2016-17 Season Preview:
Isiah Thomas on “super teams” and Kevin Durant’s offseason move to Golden State: “I think Kevin Durant had bonded with his city, I think he had bonded with his teammates. I don’t know if he had bonded with management – when I say that, it seems like something was amiss there. I’m excited that he’s going to be in Golden State. I think it makes our league more interesting, I think dominance is good when you have super teams; everyone wants to watch, and I think it’s good.”
Greg Anthony’s Eastern Conference sleeper teams: “The difference [in the Eastern Conference] this year is there are two teams that I think have made significant improvements to their roster – the Knicks and the Pacers. The reason I say those two teams is Paul George believes he is on that [superstar] level. Carmelo [Anthony] is another player like that.”
Kevin McHale on the 2016-17 Boston Celtics: “The Celtics have a lot of young, talented guys. They all play together – they seem to have a collective spirit about them. I think Al Horford can be the glue that brings a lot of those young guys together. I’m not saying they can beat Cleveland, but I think they have a mindset about them that will allow them to compete. They’re just going to go in there thinking ‘What do we have to lose?’”
