TNT’s Exclusive 2016 NBA Western Conference Finals Coverage Continues to Deliver Cable’s Top Two Programs of the Night

WCF Game 2 Garners Triple Digit Growth Across Digital Platforms

TNT’s exclusive presentation of the 2016 NBA Western Conference Finals – Game 2 between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, May 18, and the iconic Inside the NBA post-game show – delivered the top two programs of the night across all of cable television for the second consecutive time this series.

Game 2 between the Thunder/Warriors on TNT averaged 7.5 million total viewers and a 4.7 U.S. HH rating, based on Nielsen Fast Nationals, to garner the most-viewed program of the night on cable.  TNT’s Inside the NBA averaged a 2.5 HH rating, according to Nielsen metered market data, for the second-best program of the night. TNT’s new reality dunk competition series, The Dunk King, which averaged a 1.4 HH rating, helped the network round out cable’s top three programs of the night based on metered market ratings.

Last night’s Thunder/Warriors telecast peaked with an average of 9.1 million viewers and a 5.6 U.S. HH rating from 10:45-11 p.m. ET.  Overall, the game telecast is the most viewed and highest rated Conference Finals Game 2 airing on the network since 2011 (ECF Game 2 between the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls).

TNT’s Thunder/Warriors WCF Game 2 telecast is up 32% in viewers and 27% in U.S. HH rating when compared with 2014, the last time the network televised the Western Conference Finals (Oklahoma City vs. San Antonio).  Last night’s WCF Game 2 is up 29% in viewers and 31% in U.S. HH rating over last year’s NBA Eastern Conference Finals coverage airing on TNT (Cleveland vs. Atlanta). This year’s coverage of the WCF Game 2 also generated double-digit audience growth across all key demos.

The top rated local markets for Thunder/Warriors – San Francisco (21.5 HH rating); Oklahoma City (20.0); Tulsa (10.8); Cleveland (10.0) and Sacramento (9.3).

Turner’s TV Everywhere platforms generated significant gains for last night’s WCF Game 2, including uniques up 744% over last year, live streams up 558% and minutes consumed up +231%, when compared to the comparable coverage in 2015. 

Additionally, content published via NBA on TNT’s Facebook and Twitter accounts generated 18 million impressions yesterday, up 66% over last year. Further, Turner’s accounts drove more than two million video views, up 93% over Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals last year.

TNT’s exclusive coverage of the 2016 Western Conference Finals will continue Sunday, May 22, with Game 3 of the series at 8 p.m. The network’s coverage will begin with NBA Tip-Off presented by Autotrader at 7 p.m. with host Ernie Johnson and analysts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal.
