Monday, April 18, 2016
Turner Sports is promoting Turner veteran Will Funk to executive vice president, sales & property partnerships, a new leadership role where he will develop and manage long-term marketing partnerships around Turner Sports’ portfolio of marquee properties. Based in New York, Funk continues to report to Jon Diament, executive vice president of Turner Sports Ad Sales.
“Will has played a critical role in expanding our NCAA corporate marketing program, while also developing signature marketing partnerships around high profile NBA content,” said Diament. “Premium sports continue to be a leading environment to engage with highly desirable audiences, and we believe we have only scratched the surface on how we can partner with brands. This new role is key to our mission to build out longer term, client-first marketing partnerships that allow us to enhance existing relationships and deliver greater impact for brands.”
Within Funk’s new role, he will oversee the expansion of new and returning partnerships, moving beyond just linear and television media plans by unlocking the power of multi-platform properties such as the NCAA, Bleacher Report, and the launch of eSports on TBS. Official rights offered to partnering clients include in-venue; digital; television and social media; event marketing; branded content production; product integration and licensing. This commitment builds on his expertise and experience jointly overseeing the NCAA corporate marketing program alongside CBS for the past six years.
Funk has held various leadership positions within Turner Sports Ad Sales for close to 15 years, most recently as senior vice president of sponsorship integration and business development. Since Turner partnered with the NCAA and CBS in 2010, he and his team have played a key role in expanding the NCAA Corporate Champion and Partner program from 9 to 17 brands, while securing high profile renewals. Throughout his time at Turner Sports, he has closely aligned with the division’s production team to build out branded content capabilities for a variety of advertising categories, spanning the NBA, NCAA, MLB, NASCAR and PGA.
Funk joined Turner in 2001 from the NBA where he was senior director of global media programs. While at the NBA, he pioneered new revenue generating promotional partnerships with the league’s official marketing partners. Prior, he was account manager at Madison Square Garden where he oversaw ad sales and marketing partnerships across Madison Square Garden, the Knicks and Rangers, Fox Sports New York and Radio City Music Hall.
Funk is actively involved with Coaches vs. Cancer, helping the National Association of Basketball Coaches raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Bucknell College.
