Coming up Next: Turner Announces Key Highlights from 2017 Lineup
Dubai, UAE: Turner, a Time Warner company, has announced significant programming highlights from its 2017 lineup across the different broadcast segments it caters to – including an expanded general entertainment portfolio to add to its rich children’s entertainment and news offering. The lineup was revealed at the company’s annual upfront event, held recently at the Waldorf Astoria, Dubai Palm Jumeirah.
Speaking at the Turner 2016 Upfront, Tarek Mounir, Vice President and General Manager of Turner for Turkey, Middle East, North Africa, Greece & Cyprus said: “Turner is continually striving to enhance its programming and entertainment offering region wide. Our key objective has always been to provide high-quality entertainment to audiences in the region, and our successful presence across MENA as well as our exciting upcoming slate is great testament to that.”
A Look Back in Time
Turner channels were available across the region for over 15 years on pay-TV DTH and IPTV platforms. In 2002, Turner opened its CNN Arabic office, followed by the opening of the CNN Studios in Abu Dhabi in 2009. In 2010, Cartoon Network Arabic launched, focusing specifically on children’s entertainment. The offices propelled Turner’s reach within the region, which was further strengthened with the opening of Cartoon Network Studios Arabia at twofour54 in Abu Dhabi, dedicated to creating high-quality children’s entertainment content relevant to the region.
Through a strategic partnership with beIN Media Group, a leading pay-TV platform, TV production, distribution and media rights acquisition organization, Turner further reinforced its presence across the MENA region. The partnership, announced in January this year, entailed the move of Turner-owned channels, such as Cartoon Network, Boomerang, TCM (Turner Classic Movies), HLN (Headline News) and CNN HD, towards being offered on DTH (direct-to-home) exclusively via beIN’s distribution network across the region.
A recent achievement for the company came with the launch of the IMG Worlds of Adventure, Dubai’s first mega themed entertainment destination that features a dedicated Cartoon Network Zone, bringing to life all-time favourites – Ben 10, Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls and The Amazing World of Gumball – in an interactive world of thrilling rides and immersive entertainment experiences.
