Turner Webby Awards Winners:
CNN’s Van Jones for the Webby Special Achievement Award
The Webby Awards is thrilled to honor Van Jones with this year’s Special Achievement Award for his use of the Internet and social media during the 2016 election, including for his video series “The Messy Truth.” A renowned author, political commentator, and activist with a unique perspective of how the media, technology, and the Internet intersect, Jones is a CNN Political Commentator and Founder of The Dream Corps. His innovative initiatives like #YesWeCode and #LoveArmy demonstrate his commitment to diversity in tech and the Internet’s power for organization and political mobilization. Jones’ rigorous and challenging work in “The Messy Truth,” seeking to understand all stripes of the political spectrum, is especially relevant given the rise in fake news, the President’s attacks on journalists, and the echo chambers many Americans find themselves participating in on social media. For using the Internet to elevate much-needed information and perspectives, we’re delighted to honor Van Jones with the 2017 Webby Special Achievement Award.
