‘The Alienist’ costume and art exhibit displays in New York
December 21, 2017
TNT showcases the exquisite costumes featured in the anticipated series “The Alienist” through a unique New York art exhibit. Looks worn by series stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning are showcased in a one-of-a-kind, curated installation that will be on display in Time Warner Center now through January 5, 2018.
Taking inspiration from the architectural settings of the TNT drama, the exhibit conjures a sense of layering, veiling and dark transparency. The display presents a capsule environment for the opulent Gilded Age, the time period that sets the series. Award-winning costume designer Michael Kaplan (“Star Wars” sequel trilogy, “Blade Runner,” “Fight Club,” “Flashdance”) also drew inspiration from the late 19th century to create the garments shown.
The installation was designed by Abbott Miller / Pentagram. It will open with 6,000 free copies of “The Alienist” available to the public. The award-winning novel, on which the upcoming TV series is based, was written by Caleb Carr.
Set amidst the underbelly of New York City in 1896, “The Alienist” is a gripping, turn-of-the-century murder mystery like none other: the story of the emergence of the world’s most powerful city that will stop at nothing to bury its darkest secrets. The series brings to life characters of the time through elaborately styled costumes and exquisite detail.
“The Alienist” premieres on TNT on January 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
