Inside Turner: The TBS Comedy Hub brings all-star talent to NYC

Your bad mood probably won’t last if you visit PUBLIC hotel in New York during the second week of November. Not only would your irritation subside, it’s possible you’d forget your problems all together – and laugh. That’s because PUBLIC will be the venue for the TBS Comedy Hub, a new in-person experience that allows fans exclusive access to TBS programming and its funniest talent.

In association with the New York Comedy Festival (NYCF), the TBS Comedy Hub grew out of a yearlong vision to create a deeper connection with audiences. The thought was how, in this era of hashtags and emojis, could the network give fans an experience that lives beyond a swipe or scroll. What the TBS team came up with is an immersive five-day celebration of laughter that is unlike anything the network has ever done.

“It’s our version of Comic-Con,” said Ramon Cortes, one of the leads behind the Hub’s execution. “What we’re trying to do is encourage people to slow down and enjoy the moment, and hopefully create memories that will have a halo effect on the brand.”

Key draws from the TBS Comedy Hub will include a second season premiere bash for “Search Party,” which will allow guests to live in the series’ world through music, lighting and set design. “Full Frontal” star Samantha Bee is scheduled to participate in a revealing conversation where nothing – yes, absolutely nothing –  is off limits. And TBS will be taking it back with “A Toast to The O.G.’s of Comedy,” a nod to trailblazing funnymen Tracy Morgan and Cedric the Entertainer, who star in the upcoming TBS comedy “The Last O.G.”

The Hub will also showcase a photo exhibit, “The Comedians,” from famed photographer Limor Garfinkle featuring a series of never-before-seen snapshots of comedy greats, including Tracy Morgan, Jim Gaffigan, Lewis Black and Jim Norton. The exhibit is Garfinkle’s passion project, which took two years to create with the help of industry professionals and friends.

For those who can’t make the flight to New York, the Comedy Hub will also produce exclusive digital content that will be shared on the TBS app, as well as on its social media channels.

“This really puts us at the forefront of the entertainment landscape, as it allows our fans to celebrate this form of entertainment in a way new way,” said Michael Engleman, executive vice president – Entertainment Marketing and Brand Innovation at TBS and TNT. “We hope our fans walk away from the experience feeling that we create smart comedy for everyone.”

The TBS Comedy Hub is open from Tuesday, Nov. 7, through Sunday, Nov. 12, from 3 p.m. - 11 p.m. daily at PUBLIC Hotel, located at 215 Chrystie Street New York, N.Y.
