Turner partners with HSF for the 2018 Media & Entertainment Summit

Last week, WarnerMedia divisions—led by Turner, as part of its partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)—teamed with HSF to sponsor the 2018 Media & Entertainment Summit.

The annual four-day long event brings together 100 Latino college students interested in pursuing careers across the industry.

Founded in 1975, HSF empowers families and students with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education and pursue their professional goals.

CNN’s Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, Ramon Escobar kicked off the Summit with opening remarks.

“I will tell you this. I could be in a lot of places right now but there is no place I would rather be than right here.  I wouldn’t be here without HSF. You are the future of media and have the power to change the industry,” said Escobar, an HSF alum.

The conference included a career expo, recruitment fair and panel appearances from Gabby Fuentes, senior HR business partner, Cartoon Network; Lilian Petrie, recruiting manager, CNN; and Rita Morales, senior vice president of Business Affairs and Associate General Counsel for Turner.

The scholars were also treated to a special program from Turner, ¡Si Se Puede!, which highlighted how Latinos play a leading role in participating in and shaping the media industry in the United States.  During the two-hour program, students heard testimonies and encouragement from leaders across WarnerMedia including HBO’s Vice President of Post-Production Mara Lopez; Shari Scorca, Vice President of Unscripted Content, Stage 13; and Yrthya Dinzey-Flores, WarnerMedia’s Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Philanthropy & Diversity.

The summit ended Sunday afternoon with an inspiring message from Krecyte Villareal, the LA bureau manager for CNN En Espanol.
